Little back ground here, my wife had never touched a gun before we got together. Out of all the guna ive had the only one she really liked and shot very much was. NEF handi rifle in 7.62x39. She is starting to show a lot more interest after our deer hunt last fall, but unfortunately all my rifles are too big for her to handle, and she s nkt comfortable around handguns yet. So i have decided i want to build her a rifle for her birthday this year. Thinking about starting with a mini mauser 7.62x39 and cutting the stock, and the barrel back to 18" (she is very short and has a hard time with a long gun) thinning the stock some and fitting it with a low power vortex scope. What are yalls thought on this?

Should serve well. How about a CZ in the same chambering. The CZ may be a bit more refined that the Interarms. A quick twist 223 on one of these small actions wouldn't be a bad idea for a deer rifle either. With the quick twist there will be a wide variety of bullets that will be good for deer harvesting. If you want even more refined start with the small Sako action. Expensive yes but worth the money.

Not really worried about super refined. What ever I get her will be gone over by hand anyway so i can refine anything that is a bit rough.

I've owned for some time a Rem.Model 7,with a lowend Tupperware short stock, set up as a "scout"rifle with IER Scope..Always a hit with the youngsters and smaller ladies, even though it's a 308 W. But,they were only exposed to cast bullet loads,or jacketed hunting bullets at low end 30/30 specs. That's one of the great things about our "game"..If the gun fits the user, the load can be tailored to whatevery application desired at the time..308 .with .310 RB for Grouse dinner.308 W.with 125-135 FP(30/30 specs) for whitetail harvesting ,or 308 W. Full house with 165 Nosler Part. to handle an elk,no problem.. Made a GREAT saddle scabbard gun also, balanced only by a Estwing axe on the other side,in case you needed to clear a few things to get your horse close to the kill site....always on the "look" for another, seems like those that have em,want to keep em...1Oxxxxxxxxxxn
