yes, i know, i am really dumb, AGAIN.
i have a sporterized 91 argie(1900) with a redfield aperture sight and 7.63x53. since i want to varmint/target shoot with it and my range is only about 125ish yards, i decided on some unique and a Lee 185-R. i loaded up 10.0, 11.0 and 12.0gr of unique and took the 10.0gr out to sight in at 100 yards.
then it got bad. i fired three and when i got to the 100 yards target ( www.amazon.com/Champion-Redfield-Precision-Sight-Target/dp/B000KKER0Y/ref=sr_1_1?c=ts&keywords=Hunting+Targets+%26+Accessories&qid=1655313218&refinements=p_89%3AChampion+Traps+and+Targets&rnid=2528832011&s=hunting-fishing&sr=1-1&ts_id=3413711 ) there was nothing on it. no problem, i wish i would have my head on straight, i'll just move sight...........(problem) up . so back to the bench, move the sight and fire 3 more. where they went is anybody guess, but (problem) they probably went over the target, so i move the sight up, AGAIN. next batch, same thing. i move to 50 yards, fire 3 and its the same thing. i move to 25 yards, fire 3 and i can hear it hit the top of target board. i won't tell you how much i moved it up, but the sight was about in two pieces. .
then inspiration hit me like a cement truck, you fool (smacked again), you should have moved the sight down (smacked again). "but" i said and smacked again. "i"......smack. "it"......smack. "DOWN, DOWN, DOWN" i said and i cringed expecting a smack, but it wasn't forthcoming.
i moved the aperture down to where i first started and at 25 yards it was still shooting high, but it was on the target. so i moved it down and went to the 50 yard line and it was still high(6 inches or so) so i moved it down. 100 yards target it was 2-3" high but then i ran out of ammo. i figure that it went 2ish inches with 3 shots, but at the time i was still mad at myself. so when ever the weather is not hot, i'll sight it in with 10.0gr unique and go from there.
oh, i formed the 7.65x53 by taking an '06 cartridge and cutting off, chamfer, trim and chamfer to the correct size. i'll ream out the necks before sizing.
10.0gr of unique still left soot on the neck, but that problem will work itself out with either 11 or 12gr of unique. if not, oh well (problem).
