I actually looked into this. Unfortunately you have to pick up applications in person, and no guarantee you will get picked.

Your Grandpa Delbert once told me when he was young the fish and game department hired several local boys to hunt and kill five grizzlies that they had moved out of Yellowstone park because they were problem bears. They had relocated them to the Darby area where they continued to be problem bears. Of the 5 bears Dell got four of them. He said he used a trapdoor 45-70 that he bought with a case of mil-surp black powder ammo for $5.00. He told me that on one of them he was nearly asleep in the saddle and the horse was headed for a water troth and when he went to drink one of the bears stood up on the other side of the troth. As he was falling off the bucking horse he managed to squeeze off a shot and luckily it killed the bear. Dell was well known as the man to get if you had wild animal problems. He taught me a lot and because I was often seen with him I was treated with the respect he had earned.

Went to the web sight and there are a bunch of hoops to jump through and fees to pay just to get started Then ya have to use none lead bullets fired from approved bottle neck cartridges.

Too bad they don't teach history anymore. Apparently they are unaware of another bison cull that was conducted using only black powder and pig lead.

I looked into the rifle requirements and basically they want 338 win mag or larger so I could have used my 375 Ruger. They say hunters wanted, but it’s basically a lottery and I think they are still only issuing one tag if you get in. They are more worried about making money then just having a guy with a rifle and a couple skinners come in and deal with the herd.
