A good friend of mine is in the hospital. He's an Ethiopian Christian by the name of Berhane. Over there, he's a famous singer and composer. Here, he's just another truck driver. Any way, he's had a kidney transplant and done ok for a few years. This past weekend, he got pretty sick. Low red blood cell count, and kidneys not functioning well. Preliminary tests indicate severe ulcers causing lots of bleeding. Tests still ongoing. The immuno suppressant drugs he has to take complicates things. He has overcome a lot of things in his life, including daily beatings while imprisoned for fighting against the Mengistu regime. (The guy who killed King Haile Salasi) Berhane (pronounced bur hani) is as good a man as you'll find on this earth.

Thanks, guys. He is still in the hospital. He has an infection that gave him ulcers. They're treating for that and watching for kidney improvement. Looks like this will take a while.

Thanks, Mike, (and all) he called a mutual friend last night. Devin says Berhane sounded weak, but better. Berhane sounded better, but Devin didn't think to ask for specifics. I don't know if more people praying has an increased effect, nor If repeated prayer helps. I seem to recall something about vain repetition in the scripture. I do worry about him and hope the Lord will help him and guide his doctors.

Talked to Berhane last weekend. He has to have dialysis, but he sounds MUCH better. His blood count is up. There is still hope for his kidney, but it's going to be a long road. I do believe the prayers are working! Thanks!

Good morning That is good news at least. Just keep on trusting our Great Physician will yet restore his health. I take vain repeticion to mean the meaningless words some repeat time after time because they were told to. Not from the heart but as a duty. Asking God to help a Brother in need if from the heart is not in vain. Hundreds of times God says to ask, seek, pray.... full of faith knowing He hears the prayer of faith. Mike in Peru

Talked to him today, he sounds very tired again. He has to go for dialysis three times a week and they've given up on his kidney. He's on the transplant list again. Now, he's hoping to find local work. From the sound of his voice, I'm afraid even that much may be too much for him.

An update. Berhane isn't on the transplant list yet. He had to overcome a couple of health issues first. Yesterday he had a thyroid test done where they stuck 4 needles in his gland and worked them in and out several times to collect tissue. He's in tremendous pain as a result, can't swallow. That will get better, but he is so week. It pained me to see him like this. He's running out of savings, but I can help with living expenses. Not asking for$, just your prayers. His name is pronounced bur honny highly. Thanks. Tom
