Ive got a Interarms mk5 action that is in need of a barrel, and I am thinking about designing a new wild cat. The rifle is currently a way over chambered 25/06. I'm thinking about starting with a 7 mag case, and giving it a ackley shoulder based off of the bottom of the old shoulder, thus giving it a longer neck, and then necking it down to 6.5. what do yall think?

I think you are re creating a 264 win mag.

264 has the same shoulder placement as the 338. I want the neck to be longer like the 300 short Ackley mag.

I see no gain in this either ballistic, or in barrel life to justify the cost. Something else to consider is that when you have a receiver designed to feed cartridges on the 30/06 case diameter going to the larger magnum case diameter often requires feed rail alteration due to feed issues of the larger diameter case. The fatter case stacks differently in the mag so the angle of entry from mag to chamber is more acute unless feed rails and sometimes mag box are altered. A 25/06 is one hellofa cartridge with great potential but unfortunately greatly handicapped by the sporting industries insistence to hobble it with barrels too short to exploit its full potential at 21" which is so common now. They see fit to use 26' barrels if the cartridge is christened with the word magnum in its name. The word magnum has become synonymous with the belted case which you know the 25/06 has not but performance wise it surely is a magnum and is fully deserving of the ballistic enhancement the longer barrel allows. I know you have an inherited taste for exotics in chamberings of which I feel even though a factory standard the 25/06 qualifies. I would venture a guess nay even a wager that having a 25/06 with barrel long enough to take full advantage of the slow burning powders that the cartridge thrives on and allowed enough time shooting such to total familiarity would dampen imaginings of more exotic creations.

SierraHunter: if wanting a 6.5mm bore, perhaps a 6.5-06 or 6.5-06AI? Not sure if .25-06 can be JES'd opened to 6.5 or not? Or if you really wanna c'tridge that few have, how about re-boring to the .300 Whelen, brass is most easy to come by or make from similar cases.

I'm starting to learn towards rebarreling it to 25/06 Ackley since I've got quite a few 25 cal bullets.

I think I found one of those rare 300 Whelen cases at the gravel pit. I am thinking about putting it on ebay at some insane price. I saw an auction there for another equally rare case the 7mm Roberts. It had bids that reached the stratosphere. There is good money to be made finding these rare gems.
