welp, i did IT again!!!! i bought some g96 gun treatment, not that i NEED it. i was perfectly fine with gunslick's foaming bore cleaner and ballistol. i was fine when i mixed atf and mineral spirits. what more do i need? they have g96 instead of breakfree clp. buy it, you'll like it!!! so i bought it. i'll use a time or two and then it goes on my shelf. and it won't be alone!!!!!
i have rem oil hoppe's #9 gun oil hoppe's #9 bore solvent birchwood gun scrubber shooter's choice mc7 bore solvent sweets kroil hornady 1 shot gun cleaner butch's bore solvent shooter's choice copper solvent sharp shooters wipe out bore solvent remington bore cleaner shooter's choice lead cleaner frog lube 3in1 oil rig gun grease teflon gun oil pro shot bore cleaner pro shot copper bore cleaner birchwood gun oil and there is few more to boot!!!!!
i think i got gun cleaner syndrome(gcs) to go along with rifle collection syndrome(rcs) too. i don't want to talk about gun cleaning rods(gcr), the gun brushes/patches(gbp) or the shooting rests and bags(srb) either.
i have a problem............

You poor poor man! Just think if you didn't buy all that stuff you could afford another gun. Always remember acquiring guns is not money spent it is money saved and don't you dare ever tell my wife otherwise.

Buying a rifle is a "good investment". I have never had to sell one for less than it cost me. Except I end up giving some away to needy friends who actually need a rifle or shotgun for real real reasons. But cleaners that is a new one ! ATF, brake fluid, Kerosene, served me well for years. I did 15 years ago buy a quart of Break Free and am near the end of the bottle. I did buy a Green Liquid called "frog something" last time up that seemed to work OK... But I like old rifles. Especially those that need some work to get them shooting. Strange calibers sing a special tune to my heart.... Frank Wesson 44 down below as I cannot get the picture in this Quick Post... I was not thinking ahead and rambling got me here...

Well I had to edit the Frank Wesson down to half a rifle to get it in But the stock is a simple hunk of walnut with the standard curved steel shoulder cruncher. Anyway rifle (24 " Barrel) was a 44 Rim Fire but I figured out the firing pin could be removed (now under the butt plate) and I cobbled together a center fire pin (not real pretty). Ammo was a mystery at first as my only two references plus internet stuff was confusing about what the brass really should be. But I had some new 44-40 Starline that is shipped as a straight wall and it plopped ring into the chamber. So with a standard 200 grain 44WCF slug (40-1) and a sufficient amount of Goex 3F took old Frank (about 1870) out to a nearby tree. Stuck a paper with a 3 inch dot on it and at 25 yards sat down and Old Frank it plopped those 5 rounds into a nice little group I was right proud of. Just had to move the rear sight a bit and later I was off looking for some ground hog or other pest critter to eliminate off the fields. And for cleaner... hot water with just a drop or three of Dawn dish soap... Although what little I shot it a wet saliva patch or two would have been enough. Have since those first shots found a smokeless load that duplicates the 3F load. And I seldom clean a barrel shooting smokeless until it needs cleaned. Accuracy is the proof for that.

yesterday i used g96 on my 93 mauser, 98 mauser(bought both at auction) and mossberg 500(12ga). i am impressed is all i got to say. it removed rust, cosmaline and all others. just a squirt of g96 and 0000 steel wool and i was amazed at my guns. g96 has a place on my reloading table, between ballistol and gunslick foaming bore cleaner.
the mossberg 500 was a piece of rust. i found her really deep between the corners in my gun safe. i forgot about her. 10-15 years of forgetting. i can't remember when i put an oily rag to her. but all is not lost!!!! g96 to the rescue!!!!! she is clean and able. i gave her to my oldest son to slay ringnecks, grouse, squirrels and whatever else he comes across. its a good shootin gun with rem heavy game loads #6's. it deserves to be out in light, not tucked away in my safe. besides, what good is it to have a one armed guy(me!!!) that can't shuck shells!!!

Regarding rust: I've used a product called Corrosion-X for many a year now and find it exceptional when dealing with rust and as a lubricant. I buy it at a True Value Hardware store, though it's available elsewhere. In case there's still room on your shelf, here's a web site link 'bout it: www.corrosionx.com/corrosionx-for-guns.html
