I'm not sure I could work up the nerve to shoot something like that. Interesting find.

Some people always seem to come up from stepping in it smelling like roses. Step in the doo doo and find an old gun qualifies. Good score. Maybe a candidate for Jes.

I was thinking about whacking it out to 32 since I've got all the stuff for 32 still after you got the 336 off of me.

I'm not sure I could work up the nerve to shoot something like that. Interesting find. I was a bit nervous, and used the load showing the lowest pressure in the lyman book. I don't think I would be brave enough to chamber one of my old Marlin loads in it.

Re boring to 32 may not completely clean up the old bore. May have to go to 35 cal minimum . The 35/30 makes a nice wildcat though. As long as the chamber is not pitted you can do 35/30. If the chamber is pitted you might check Gun Parts Corp.. They often have new and used replacement barrels available for very reasonable prices.

I was thinking 35/35 if I have to go to 35 cal.

HA! I had the same idea Dan Sr. had--JES Rebore. A real phoenix, rising from the ashes. Hard to fathom why people would use a rifle like a tomato stake and let it go to rust like this. An atrocity.

There is a bridge about 1/2 mile upstream from where I found the gun, and then about 2 miles up stream there is a common party place. It either got chucked off the bridge, or some drunk kid dropped in in the river. Either way, I ran the numbers with the local sheriff and it came back clean.

I wondered about the rifle's legal status......good that you cleared it. There are LOTS of ways a rifle can end up in a river apart from criminal actions--a spiteful spouse or significant other comes to mind here, thinking of damage done to bass boats and cars during domestic dust-ups that I got called to while doing my Sheriff bit. Hell TRULY hath no fury......and getting rid of an unwanted firearm is kind of a PITA--short of turning it in to LE for destruction, there aren't a lot of responsible manners to dispose of such an item.

I volunteer to become a disposal provider.
