Sorry I have been absent of late on this forum but I do have (excuses) reasons. The cast bullet business has been brisk and time consuming leaving little time for other than seasonal responsibilities. In the summer months when I can break from filling bullet orders my big responsibility is getting in an adequate supply of firewood. Our annual consumption of wood for heating our old uninsulated house is quite a volume and since it is our only heat source staying on the high side of what we need is a comfort.
I know this lifestyle is foreign to most folks these days so I thought some might enjoy a few pictures of our wood gathering. As soon as Tina is available for help I will have her add some pictures here of load #7. Our annual consumption at the very minimum is 10 loads as pictured so we shoot for something over ten loads until fall brings about other domestic chores like hunting and butchering of raised animals.
This past spring was far wetter than normal for here which had the effect of a very abundant berry crop so we are trying to take advantage of that as well. On our rout to our firewood location my helpers and I had spotted a few places where the wild currents were unbelievably thick from the spring rain so we stopped at one location and managed nearly a five gallon bucket full of which the Missus will be making into wild current jam today.
Once we hit ten loads the pressure is off so we then coast a bit into fall. When hunting season arrives we usually add a couple more loads as I hunt the morning hours then when the sun is high and animals are bedded for the day I will cut some wood until evening when animals start moving again.
I hope you all enjoy a small peak into our lifestyle courtesy of these picture of our wood gathering. May the lord bless us all, which he obviously has !!!
