Missoinary and others
Receiver sight adds a slightly longer sight radius. Always seeking any help can get with accuracy improvements. The Trapper had the receiver sight already installed when I acquired it. Must admit I prefer not to have this type of receiver sight on a side sling mounted carbine. Why? As the bulk of the receiver sight protrudes out from the action enough that it's 'slightly' noticeable against my back, when carrying it in the field. Not enough that I'll change it out, but enough that it's noticeable. I prefer to keep the left side of the receiver smooth/flat. So have used a Skinner type of rear barrel peep sight on my other Trapper .357 magnum.
For many years had an interest in obtaining what is commonly known as the Winchester Belgian Congo Model 1894, with the side sling. A bit out of my reach as they are collectibles these days and the ones that aren't collectible don't seem to be in that good of condition. So I came up with a Post 64 Winchester 1894 that had been rebored from .30-30 to .38-55 and then refinished. How could I affect the collector value of that one!! That was my first side sling conversion. Liked it so well have done several Rossi M92's and a few other carbines since then. I've converted to a side sling a CZ 452 Scout .22 LR, what a joy to hike around with in the woods n' hills.
Hope I'm not being out of line with referencing the side sling information from another web site?
I see you're (Missionary) already a member of Rossi-rifleman Forum, so you'll be able to view the pictures.
If someone's not a member, they will not be able to view the pictures, this would have to sign up in their web site - not a bad thing either!

Also on a Ruger No. 3 .45-70 (though I'm able to change the forearm/buttstock between other No. 3's I use).
On the No. 3 had major removal of metal to convert a 10/22 barrel band, by thinning down the half circle area that goes over the barrel.
10/22 barrels are smaller in diameter than a No. 3 barrel. I then adapted a sling sloop from a Model 1896 Swede rifle sling! Hey, it works!

1. Rebuilt Peabody .43 Spanish (had action n' buttstock only) into same configuration as a Peabody .50 rimfire military carbine, Badger barrel in .45-70.
2. Winchester Post 64 1894 carbine, rebored from .30-30 to .38-55, refinished and installed side sling setup.
3. CZ 452 Scout .22 LR, Hensoldt-Wetzler 2 1/2x scope, German No. 1 reticle, very easy to install side sling setup on similar wood stocks - wood thread sling posts work well.
4. Accurate Arms Co. Handi Rifle in .300 Blackout, 16" factory barrel, I added an SKS paratrooper front sight, Handi rifles also easy to install side sling setup on.
The .300 Blackout Handi Rifle is very compact, handy and the cartridge most versatile with handloads n' Bullshop cast bullets - my favorites!
Didn't mean to get too windy here with the reply, k'. Sometimes that just happens ya know!!
I'm a confirmed believer in a side sling. Come to think of it, over 8 million+ military Mauser rifles around the world might just have been on to something!!

Hombre
