One major seasonal thorn in my side is the worry about getting in enough fire wood to get through the coming winter without running out. Our house is heated with wood only and its a big old house typical of old houses sans insulation. When the wind blows outside we can feel it inside. A cold winter wind pulls heat from the house so our multiple wood stoves go non stop through most of fall all winter and most of spring.
This spring my wood scouting truck was down for several months until through trial and error I finally hit on the right possibility and got it going. I was more than just a bit worried about being so late getting started on getting our wood in. Once I got the scouting truck going I found a new wood cutting location that is rich with standing dead from a beetle kill that went through a couple years ago but is about 25 miles farther than where I had been going. Because of the greater distance to travel I felt to justify the additional travel expense I would have to haul larger loads. This new found area is such a blessing that I can pretty much drive right up to the trees to get them loaded. Where before I had to hang rigging and pull trees uphill to the road now am saving time by having less work to gain access to the wood. Where before I was spending a day getting a 1 ton truck load now in the same days time I am getting the truck loaded plus a 16 foot trailer load. These double load days have got me caught up in half the time I expected it would take.
My hind sights on this issue now are #1 The Lord will provide, #2 My scouting vehicle down time was a blessing in disguise, #3 all the worrying in the world did not a whit to get our wood in, #4 constantly remind self "" seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these (needed) things will be added on to you""
So here is a pic of the wood shed with over fill at this time. We still have through September or there about to continue to get wood so hope that the pile will grow substantially by then. By the assessment of King Solomon the wisest man that ever lived who lavished himself with every indulgence his mind could consider finally came to the conclusion " it is all vanity and vexation of spirit" and that the greatest pleasure we have in life is to see and enjoy the work of our hands. I agree with king Solomon as it gives me great pleasure to gaze upon this work of my hands.
Praise God!
