Greetings Our 1987 Suzuki Samurai blew out the head gasket. Started blowing compression into the water jacket which resulted in about one quart per 10 miles getting expelled into the overflow which is a custom installed gallon jug. So it sits waiting on the shop to get done. Thought it was going to be ready today but one of the valves was not seating so Monday morning. Tomorrow will ride the 250 Kaw to church.

"In all things give thanks" Sometimes that's hard to do and even harder to understand but it always helps in some way to someone. " All things work for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose"

Amen Brother... Giving thanks and trusting His results sure keeps the heart in an even plane. Well Monday morning came and went but at 5 pm the head was finished. Tuesday I go to the mountain villages for services so got started assembling Wednesday. Today I near got to start it but still lack the valve cover, distributor cap, clean the plugs, add "green water" and hook the battery. Then a primer of gas and turn the key.

Good afternoon Got it all together yesterday about 1 pm. Dumped a dash of gas down the carb and turned the key... Nothing at the starter. Looked closely and saw I missed reconnecting the clip on wire on the solenoid post. Back to the key and turned it. Was blessed to hear and feel the instant Vaaaa-roooom. Lasted for that little dowse of gas so added another. And another and.... 30 minutes worth and wondering why the carb is not filling. Pulled the hose at the carb and now wondering whats up. So quit for an hour and put the battery charger to work while I think and ask God for a bunch of wisdom. Back out and repeated another 30 minute priming. Once it ran for near 15 seconds. Big hopes only to be dashed. So rather that get frustrated decided to take a brake and work on Sunday messages. Tried once more at 5 pm and only the same. Decided Saturday morning to pull the carb and open it.
So today open the carb and very little evidence of fuel. So filled the bowl and reattached. Primed and walla ! 3 minutes of wonderfull racket. Then it died. So now the fuel pump is #1 suspect. Pulled it and pushed the operating lever. Nice gush of gas blew out. So now I am wondering what gives... looked down into the pump hole and I see a 1/4 diameter hole. Run a screwdriver into it a good 4 inches before it thumps about where the cam lobe should be. The mechanic that did the valves did not put the shaft back. Cranked the 175 Yamaha and sure enough I told him what I was hunting and he walks to a tray of parts and hands me the rod. Back home at 10am. 2 primes and the Sammy is cooking the refrigerant to a nice hot temp.
But during all these days I have studied a bunch on Sammy carbs. Everything I read says the OEM is junk well designed to fail. Well mine has caused us all sorts of issues. Solutions are numerous but the best and simplest is a 1978 era Toyota Corolla carb. So next week I start looking for a rebuilt. Thank you for your good advice above . IT sure did help ! Mike

New carb is installed and the 87 Sammy is purring like a big cat again. Drove it up to 10'500 feet this afternoon and it climbed like it should. It has never ran this good for us. Thank you Lord for all the help figuring out how to get rid of a mess and ending up with simplicity that works so well. Mike in Peru
