Well, I picked mine up today. No box, metal is 100%, wood I will put at 98% as it has on little dink and some minor scratches. Pretty sure I can make them all disappear. This is my first Winchester lever gun of any sort. As for lever guns I have always been partial to Marlins. Have a stable full of various 336's, all in 30-30. Some are shooters, some are special to me and a couple are candidates for projects. I mentioned this was my first Winchester lever gun. Forgot that is not totally correct. Picks up a crazy horse in 38-55 a few years back. Before I could even load for it my best bud talked me out of it. I have worked with the 375 a fair bit, only a 14" contender barrel. The 38-55 a little but not much as a friend just had to have it to match his rifle. I am going to run a few hand loads of jacketed through it the. Go to work with cast. I hope it like the 375449 as that is the only mold I have. Buddy has the Lee mold that had the bevel base taken out. Both of these have shot well in his 38-55 and my contender barrel. I have a fair bit of powder to work with but hope 4759 works as well in the rifle as it does in my contender. Am all ears if any of you have input on this particular rifle and caliber. One of my spare 336's will still become a 38-55 at some point. Have a tapered octagon badger barrel, and want a short magazine tube. I would have liked a half round half octagon but fell into this barrel for cheap. Another 336 will be sent to jes for a makeover to 356. I look forward to this project, like I needed another. Jeff

One observation that may be helpful is that in the several 375 Winchester chambers I have tried from different makes like Win , Marlin , and Savage the much longer 38-55 brass fits the chamber. If you are going to shoot cast and run into accuracy issues check your chamber length. This gave me fits with otherwise unexplainable inconsistent accuracy. Once I fit the brass to the chamber the accuracy became consistent. Regardless of what chambering is stamped on the barrel fit your brass to the length of your chamber what ever that is. Now I buy the longest 38-55 brass I can find and fit them to the individual chamber regardless of the barrel stamping weather it says 375 Win or 38-55. Don't be fooled into believing that brass head stamped 375 win is stronger than brass stamped 38-55 or 30-30. If you section all I doubt you will find any difference in case head thickness. Besides the rim diameter is the same and that is what handles the pressure at the primer pocket. A loose primer pocket is a dead case regardless of how thick the head is. The rims being the same pressure that will expand a primer pocket on one will do the same in all.

I agree completely on the brass. I have shot enough heavy loads through the TC with 30-30 brass that there is little to no difference. I sectioned some years ago and found no measurable difference. My major concern is what my OAL will be to get the thing to shoot. Loaded up a mix this pm just to see what this rifle may have a preference for. I doubt if the throat is as long as the TC I sure hope not though.

Just looking through the old posts, and came across the 375 38-55 amd 30-30 brass comparisons. Makes me feel a lot better, for my thinking is pretty much the same. The only arguement about the stronger cases, that seems to bear any credence is the one that compares empty case weights. I had the nagging thoughts after weighing several of each cartridge, and the 375 Win cases were decidedly heavier. That in itself makes you think the heavier cases, must surely have more "meat" on their bones.
I will confess I have divided my 375 and 38-55, by length, but have "saved" the heavier 375 cases for heavier loads like the 350 gr heavy for 375 caliber bullets from the Bullshop! The brass scare has the 375 Win brass up to $3 each from some of the gougers. Luckily I have several 100 375 and at least 300 38-55 cases stashed, not to mention the extra 30-30 brass all over the place!
Thanks for the advice on the 375 brass substitutes!
