i haven't shot my inline or flintlock for about 3 or 4 years. i found it hard to place a patch/roundball and a maxi ball and have to ram it down the barrel, all of it done with one hand.(i had a stroke so my right arm/leg don't work too much ) they have been sitting for to long and its time that i start using them instead of staying in the safe.
my inline which happens to be a tc encore in 50 cal(1 in 28" twist) used to shoot a maxi ball(370gr and dad made them) and 2 pyrodex pellets(100gr) at 100 yards that did a 2" group(3 shots, open sights). its lube, believe it or not, is crisco. i used to use a powerbelt bullet, but they became too costly. my flintlock, a lyman deerstalker(left hand) in 50 cal(1 in 48" twist) can do a under 1" at 100 yards(3 shots, open sights). it uses a 178gr round ball(also my dad) with a .015" patch and 83.0gr of 2fg of goex.
in case you are wondering, my dad has a coal furnace and a cast iron pot which he uses to make the lead liquidy to pour into the mould. not scientific but it works.
my flintlock is probably going to stay the same load. but you can give me a lube for the patches. the old faulkenberry juice is about gone and there is no way to replace it.
my inline however needs a good load. i am thinking(oh Good Lord, he's thinking again) of taking a .432" 275gr ranch dog and putting it into a 50 cal plastic sabot with 2 pyrodex pellets. i think that will work.?
however i did another problem by using the plastic sabot, what do you use that can clean out the crud plastic? i did that only once. the first one was easy, the second one is hard, the third one, man you gotta beat the snot out of plastic sabot to get it down the barrel. thats why i used power belts and then maxi balls. its been awhile since i have used plastic sabots, i was wondering if there is something to clean out the crud plastic? i plan on shooting it once, putting a patch or two(with cleaner) down the barrel, and then reload, shoot, patch, reload...
thanks for any and all help!!!
