Y’all ever have one of them days when the wife is busy in the city, and you are alone to amuse yourself for a few hours? This happened to me today, and I found myself wandering aimlessly about and dang it if I didn’t wander right into a gun store.
Lots of good stuff on the shelf today that caught my eye, but one really spoke to me and I had to bring it home.
This is a 1948 Colt Officer model Target 22 long rifle. Somewhere in its past it’s been parkerized and fitted with some hand made grips with left hand palm swell. I got it for $400 which I thought was pretty good. It locks up like a bank vault and I am quite excited to get out and shoot it.

Those are very well made old revolvers. Should give you good service popping partridges for snacks along the trails.

I only had timr this morning to shoot a couple groups with it. I tried 3 times not to pull a shot and get a perfect group, but I let the gun down and didn’t do my part. It did its part though and I think it’s gonna be a keeper. CCI standard velocity fired at 10 yards.

That is the fun of a new revolver. Getting used to it and finding out it will do what-cha need.
Hey Dan... Good to see ya could take a moment from running wood to the stoves. I would not mind having one also. Have only had one .22 revolver in all my years and still have it. Got it from a long time friend and decided I like our Ruger Mrk I far more. My FIL needed a racoon dispatcher so he had it for 15 years. Now it is back with us (well in storage) and gonna head it to AZ. Maybe I will ream it a smoothbore and shoot shotshells from it at all those snakes that need to be chicken fried.

Those early Colt revolvers are fantastic! Luckily I own two, one is pretty much an exact copy of Jrs pistol except it’s in 22 mag, my blue book of gun values says they only made approximately 800 in 22 mag. The other is a pre war Colt police positive in 38 special and is the most accurate revolver I’ve ever owned hands down. A Colt collector told me that the actions on these guns were hand honed and fitted and were the model action for the Python. I have no way to prove that but judging by the way the old Colt shoots I believe it!

The older Colts were / are very nicely assembled revolvers. We have several double actions that are very nice to shoot.
