Howdy All, Today I purchased a Marlin 336LTS I’ve never owned this variation of the 336 before. It’s got a 16 1/4” barrel a straight stock and a squared lever. I went to a gun show this afternoon with my son and as we were walking in I saw a guy talking with another gentleman who was holding the rifle. The thing that first struck me was the straight stock on the rifle. I’ve always had a soft spot for them and try to buy them when I can. The guy looking passed so I asked the owner what he wanted for his rifle and he said $800 I offered $700 and we settled on $750. I was extremely happy with the price as I knew it was fairly rare because of the short barrel length. The rifle is in at least 90% maybe even 95% condition. We went on inside the show and it was fairly poor as far as any deals to be had. I bought an unissued Navy K-BAR in the hard sheath a guy was walking around with for $100 which is money in the bank. My son bought a series 70 1911 GOVT model in 45 with the two piece brown wood grain box for $950 which was a good deal as well. I would love to hear if anyone has any experience with the Marlin I bought today. Thanks for any information in advance!

Sure will make a fine woods walking carbine.

I believe LTS stood for “Light Tracker Safety” and they only built about 2700 of them from 88-89 or so. I’d bet you could add $1000 to the price you paid and still sell it fairly quickly.

From the research I’ve been able to do I found LTS stood for Lightweight Texan Safety, made from 88-89 with just under 2700 units produced. Mine is number 272. After looking around the net now I feel like I got a great deal. The most recent one that I saw sell on GB went for $1700 bucks! That’s just insane. I only fired it once last night to confirm it goes bang. That’s to everyone that provided information about this Marlin, I’d say it’s a keeper I believe.

I thought it would also make a handy woods carbine Pastor Mike. It’s extremely handy and I can already tell once I figure out a mout right above me for the hardtop on my Jeep CJ7 it will be a handy truck gun as well!!

That would be very handy ! I would think someone has already made a "protected clip" arrangement ready to attach and insert the carbine.

I did a little searching. Overhead Gun Rack will lead you to some starting ideas. Looks like they could be mounted most anywhere.

That’s ironic because one of the things I wanted to do was fabricate a rack to to put above me secured to the hardtop on my Jeep.

Am I correctly assuming that this is a 30-30 ? Micro groove ?

Yes sir! A 30-30, 16.5” barrel and its micro groove. From my research anyway it said it was only made from 88-89 and they made less than 2700 units. To me it looks like Marlins version of the Winchester Trapper. The LTS supposedly stands for Lightweight Texas Safety, I suppose that’s for the cross bolt safety and the straight stock and squared lever.
