We are getting some nasty weather with cold and snow. Actually it was snow and cold which is a way better deal. Some snow depth acts as an insulator to the cold and helps prevent frozen pipes. Yesterday we got a good snow blanket and today cold. According to the shrunken mercury about -31 F this AM. With four stoves going I am watching my wood pile melt away. I have lots of casting to do to keep up with orders but right now I am working full time trying to keep up with stoves. Tomorrow will be dedicated to splitting more wood as I dont have enough split wood to get through tomorrow night.
Not getting quite enough sleep trying to keep the stoves going through the night. About every two to three hours they need stoked. I finally surrendered to sleep after a 2AM stoking. Tina bless her heart got up at 6:00 and stoked all the stoves and let me sleep for another hour. I was only half sleeping though worrying about the stoves going out and our plumbing freezing.
It does get tough when the weather is like this so thank God its not often like this here. At times I miss Alaska but short bouts of this kind of weather reminds me that I cant handle months of it. Being a career timberman prepared me and taught me how to stay in fuel wood and it is by a good margin the cheapest way we can heat our house and cook. I can see there is a limit to how long I will be able and I thank God for the ability and will continue as long as he will allow. To me it is a joy and blessing to be out there working hard getting our wood knowing I may loose the ability soon but stopping work to thank God that I am there able and doing . When its my time to check out I would much rather it be there in the mountains working surrounded by Gods creation not mans creation and not in a drugged stupor in a hospital bed. Prais God I am blessed!
