Well I have done something that I hadn't thought I would do again. I just purchased a new Cimmaron Model P .357 Mag. / .38 Spl. Single Action with a 7 1/2" barrel. Since selling 3 of my pistols that I've owned for many years, while sorting thru storage boxes to find out what ammo I can't use any more, I found 5 boxes of .38 Spl. semi wadcutter ammo that I reloaded back in the late 1960's, that I can't use. So to take care of that problem, I have been half halfheartedly looking for a .357 Uberti S.A.A., to go with the .45 that I bought in January. A fellow Roadway driver that I had worked with in Ohio, after he transferred there from Cheyenne, WY in 1992, passed away a week ago. Another retiree that had known Gary since 1972, & who used to work out of Salt Lake City, has his Federal license, & helps a friend that owns a gun store near the Ohio-PA line. I called Jack to tell him Gary had died, & in the conversation, told him I was looking for a S.A. Uberti .357. He replied that he was looking at a new in the box Cimmaron with a 7 1/2" barrel. I asked how much, & he replied $545 + $40.87 tax. I bought it, mailed the check, & will do the paper work when I go back home camping in mid June. The price was about $25 cheaper than any I had checked on, & I will pick it up in person, so, no shipping or dealer transfer fees.

That worked out nicely! I would take a couple boxes of that old 38 Special along and warm that hog leg up.

You will want to read Skeeter Skelton's work titled, "" My old friend the 357 magnum"" I promise you will enjoy it. I gave up on the use of big bore magnum revolvers long ago and the 357 magnum became my good friend too. It will admirably perform any task I may put it to. We do still have some grizzly but encounters are rare and even so with proper heavy non expanding bullet loads I sure wouldn't feel helpless in such a defensive situation. On the other hand shooting light 38 spl just for fun is fairly cheap accurate, and not at all lacking on the fun side. A 357 mag revolver covers a lot of ground. The key to surviving an encounter with snarling tooth and claw is not so much the cartridge you are using but is regardless of cartridge to keep a cool head and place the shot where it has to go. Easier said than done and most fail and loose the fight. Proof of that is that for the past several years we have had fatalities of hunters with guns from grizzly encounters. There was one spotted a weeks ago in the area I cut my fire wood. The gun I always bring on firewood trips is a Marlin 357 magnum properly loaded for the job with stiff charges of H-110 under a hard 200gn LBT-LFN bullet. If you get a chance to read Phill Sharps developmental work on the cartridge I highly recommend it. It is very entertaining now to look at the view then of the most powerful handgun cartridge in the world.

Back in April 1973, I bought an A. Uberti-C. Gardone "Stallion" .357 Single Action, Nickle finish with a 5 1/2" barrel. It was 1 of many guns stolen during a burglary of my friend's gun shop. The thieves were caught, & John got all of his guns back, but because they had been stolen, he couldn't sell them as "new". I bought the .357 for $55.00. Nine months later, a friend really liked the pistol, & as I had some Colt Single actions, I sold it to him for $85.00. It was a good shooting pistol, & I have often wished that I hadn't sold it. He didn't want the box, so, I still have it. As for Skeeter Skelton, I subscribed to Shooting Times Magazine during the time that he was writing for them. He was the reason that I bought Shooting Times, mainly to read his articles. He was just like a guy that I know from a small place called Dell, Montana, that has a great many stories & experiences that we like to read about.

That fella in MT. sounds like an interesting chap. I used to get the shooting times for that very same reason. Skeeter was a shooter for sure but was also a wordsmith. They tried his son Bart after Skeeter passed but he didnt possess the magic his Dad had for weaving words into gold. I remember a fan from South Africa wrote and told him that in South Africa the word skeeter means shooter. He was aptly named!

Thursday afternoon, I officially became the owner of the Cimarron .357 Magnum Single Action revolver with a 7 1/2" barrel. The top of the barrel is stamped: CIMMARON F A Co. FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS, A UBERTI ITALY & on the left side of the barrel, ahead of the frame: .357 MAG.
I tried to attach a photo, but it said the file is too large.

BS Mom here -- it is a total pain! sorry - the only way I have figured it out - is to take a *screenshot* of your photo - and then post the screenshot - I don't know why that works --- if you can't do it, for some reason, you can send it to me on facebook - and I will try to do it for you

Only way we found it works is to load the photo on our laptop. Then we fanagle the right sequence by trial and error and the photo stays.

Nice !! Thank you Mrs. "Tina". Those are good looking irons. Those Walkers just about need cross sticks if you are going to go through more than 3 cylinders.
I have seen that oversize" photo also. My wife as tried to was successful sometimes to resize photo by cutting off the background. That got us to about 50% OK.

Well Dan if you have never fired a Model 1851 you should. Hickok was famous with them and for good reasons. Fun, hold well and accurate. The Colt 1873... well you know about them.
That Walker is a brute of a hand gun. A BFR in 475 is a feather weight compared to that big beast. But as far as a horse pistol goes it will get the job done. No one was safe out front of a Walker even behind a horse. The new Walkers of good steel are still the magnums they were.
The Dragoon Models are a pound less but are also 10 grains BP less. But they also addressed the Walker issues. Still slam corn crunchers down. Especially the new good repros of good steel.

Daniel, James Butler "Wild Bill" or "Duck Bill" favored the 1851 Navy Model .36 cal., but supposedly was carrying a S & W when he was killed.

Not hard to imagine that by 1876 Hickok would opt for a fast reloading cartridge revolver. Failing eyes, age and slower reaction time does change thinking. Sitting with is back to the door was not is habit.
