i know i still have to build the 1898 springfield armory in 22 hornet, but what scope mounts do you use? i've "googled" (duck duck go ) either s&k scope mounts(http://scopemounts.com/index.html?instapics.html) or kraghaus(https://kraghaus.com/). i have looked at some discontinued scope mounts(http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=6524), but they are rare. the kraghaus seems good, but i'm not sure of scout scope's magnification(it should be around 6x but i'll take a variable). anyway, can i use s&k, kraghaus or some other?

You can never go wrong with quality steel mounts. On the other side a Hornet might generate enough recoil to give duct tape a challenge.

Sorry I didnt get a picture. What I have on my 1898 Springfield rifles is Weaver side mounts. They are side mounted but hold the scope over the center of the bore. There is a base plate mounted to the side of the receiver and there is a one piece mount with both rings that uses two large knurled knobs to mount to the base plate. The are made of aluminum but seem to be quite sturdy mounts. With the 1898 Springfield bolt removal method where the extractor is lifted and the bolt body rotated on my rifles the scope is low enough that it must be removed to remove the bolt from the rifle. That is not too much trouble because the two large knurled mounting bolts are easily accessible. It does require a check on zero when re-mounting because often after re-mounting there will be a slight zero change. I dont mind that at all because its a reason ( excuse) to go shooting. As for the cost of 22 hornet ammo to re-zero the hornet is for me about as cheep as it gets the primer being the most expensive component.

thats alright. i have weaver scope mounts on my 444 marlin and two weaver base and scope mounts on my 45-70 handi rifle. i gave one handi to the son of my friend(who is not a hunter) and the other one is a "do you have a rifle i could borrow?" its one(or shall i say two ) of them black plastic thingys that i hate. i load her up with 405gr fn (i can't remember what powder or charge) and it goes 1250+/-fps. the deer really hate it, but my friends like it. the 444 marlin(tc encore with 23" mgm barrel) i can't say nothing bad about the weavers. i was going to take off the weavers and replace them with leupold, but they werk!!!! so i don't change the weavers.
