Someone gave me some lead ingots the other day, and I decided to fire up the pot and fill it up for next time I do some casting. Got it hot, filled it and let it cool. And once it cooled, this happened. Any idea what caused it?

Usually caused by a high percentage hard component in the alloy. Could be a favorable component or not. Fluidity of the alloy at casting temp will tell the tale.

These were hard, almost think they are linotype.

I suspect it was an alloy mixed for lube grooves?
