I recently acquired a Winchester model 94 in 25-35 in the rifle version. Its a decent rifle I purchased for a shooter. It is in fairly nice shape but has been re-finished so its a shooter grade rifle not a collector grade.
The issue I am having with the trigger is that it does not re-set to the same pull weight when the action is cycled. Sometimes the pull weight is very heavy and sometimes it goes as soon as you touch the trigger, and sometimes it just wont break at all.
Before I tear into it I would like to hear from anyone that has any experience working on the Win 94 trigger. Maybe you could give some pointers on what I should look for or what you might think the problem is.
I have never worked on a 94 but have worked on an 86. Maybe this is a common occurrence with a common fix ? I have never had opportunity to learn the workings of the 94 so is there anything I should be wary of please let me know.
I have noticed a couple things about this gun but having no experience with the 94 don't know if its normal or not. First there is no trigger return pressure at all the trigger proper is free to fall forward or backward depending on which way the rifle is tilted. Second the little safety gizmo on the bottom tang that protrudes through the tang does not quite contact the lever when the lever is fully closed. Also there is very little to no spring pressure on said gizmo to extend it out past the tang. It just seems very loose.
Another thing I noticed is that when I cycle the action if the muzzle is pointed up it most often has a fairly light trigger pull but if the muzzle is pointed down when the action is cycled the trigger pull is very heavy or nearly impossible to pull.
Helpful hints or ideas please ?
