GOOD MORNING For near 14 years was doing my shooting up in the hills above this getting far to big city of Arequipa. About 20 minutes drive up into a washout area that only one goat herder visited very seldom. Then as years rolled along dump trucks started digging sand, removing rocks for foundations. Then some one with a dozer leveled my area. So I moved a ways and all was well for 3 years. Until the process repeated. Had my fill and started looking. 4 months back started looking at old mine roads that I go past twice weekly on my way to a valley where we have services in 4 villages. Watching for any that no one was ever driving any more. Found a couple candidates and started watching closely. Finally narrowed it down to one. One hour from home. At 10,800 feet. Nice open area about 1 miles square. Nice little place to park that is not visible from the hard road. Only sounds are the wind, birds and the rare vehicle that passes. I think I have a place to go and enjoy life. Had a visitor last time out.

Amazing!!! That looks amazingly like the sage hills where I live but we are only 6000 ft. I thought we were at a high elevation until I read this. Am I seeing snow in those high spots in the background? What do you have there for small edible critters. In our high country we have 6 different types of rabbits or hares whichever you prefer. We also have four types of grouse . Your picture is aggravating my wanderlust condition!

Howdy Dan Those are the Andes in the back ground. The highest visible peak is Ubinas and about 16,500. Yep that is snow but most is gone now. WE do have some rock marmots but not in this area. There is a sage grouse type I hunt with a 38 Special. Only did once with the Mossberg but it just was not challenging. They sit until ya near kick then out from under the bush. Then will run maybe 10 yards and repeat the process.
Our house here in the valley is at 8000. I will check the some pictures and see if I have any on this machine of the bigger peaks. Misty is 19,000 Chachani is 21,000 These would be to the left of Ubinas in the present photo.

Good morning Yes it is. Have been walking it several times in various directions. Plenty of 'Guanaco" tracts to be found. They seem to use this "area" to bed then cross back over a saddle to a normally dry lake bed (about 1 mile) to feed on the greenery. Nice to have a place again where no one else will bother someone who wants to listen to the wind and smell the outdoors God has so kindly give us.
