Bullshop, I believe it was you who stated that a packing peanut could double as a filler. Tried it in my .458 Winchester and it worked great! Lots easier to do than kapok or Dacron. Now, did I dream it, or did you also report using packing peanuts in bottleneck cases by chopping them into chunks and stuffing the chunks in? All the best to you and yours, Bill.

Yes Bill you have it right. I use an exacto knife to slice them into thin enough pieces that they will pass through the neck. Remember when doing this to always put in enough filler that the bullet will slightly compress it. That way there will never be any issues with secondary projectile effect. I have been doing this for about three decades now with never any ill effects.

Hi Dan, My first post here and thought I'd ask a question regarding packing peanuts. I've ready about using potato starch packing peanuts on other forums, and thought the above discussion was interesting. I normally use Dacron (mostly in .30-06 loaded with cast and H4895 in M1 Garands.) So my question is, could you not just cut the peanut to the correct length and insert it by rolling between thumb & forefinger much like rolling a foam earplug before inserting? Thanks, Ed

Yes and that is exactly what I do.
