looking for info on a 45-2.6 load. Have a sharps with scope I picked up and would to load it light for BPCR silhouette. I plan on trying to do some paper patching later on.

I have no 45 - 2.6" for testing but if you care to make a donation in that regard even temporarily I will accept. I do have a Sharps in 45 - 2.4" that I have found a decent long range load for. My load uses a 500gn PP bullet over 23gn Alliant 410 and the case filled with packing popcorn and compressed seating the bullet. Since this is a tapered bullet design there is a lot of bullet outside the case. I can give you the cartridge over all length if you want. This load put up in your 2.6" cases but at the same OAL I am using should produce about the same pressure in your rifle as it does in mine. This load gives about 1330 fps in my rifle with 28" barrel. Even at this length the patch will still be well into the throat on your rifle unless your rifle is one of the early Farmingdale Shiloh rifles that had 3/4" of free bore ahead of the chamber.

Dan, Thanks, I have not ventured into the paper patch realm yet. However i would like to give it a try. I will be shooting Black powder being I will use it for Silhouette. With your naked bullets to you provide a template?

I have used the same load with lube groove type bullets of roughly the same weight. The only issue that comes up is seating depth. If the lube groove type bullet has to be seated substantially deeper than the PP type the deaper seating will raise pressure so the powder charge will have to be adjusted. I have used the Paul Jones 550gn Creedmoor seated very deeply and had to adjust the powder charge to 21gn from 23 gn to get the same pressure/velocity as the long OAL 500gn PP load with 23gn powder.

OOPS forgot to answer a part of your question. I don't offer a template. We are going to start offering these bullets patched to several diameters of .451', .454", and .458". I will most likely also offer pre cut patches in 9lb, 16lb, and 20lb cotton fiber bond paper. I have not yet decided on what a fair price will be for cut patches but will likely be about $5.00 per 100. I am shooting PP in my long range shooting and am learning about the ballistic superiority of the smooth bullet and its effect on time of flight, wind drift, and trajectory.
