Anyone that knows me knows, that I am a classic steel gun kind of guy. When I go into the gun store I will walk past all the plastic guns and go straight to the 1911's and single action revolvers. Not that I've never handled or shot a polymer framed gun, I'm just not a fan. This all changed about a year ago. I walked into the local gun store to waste some time and the owner told me to come check out a new gun he just got in the rack. He pulled it out, and I saw it was green plastic and said no thanks, not my thing. He insisted I come take a look, and that he thought I would like it, so I reluctantly set down the 1895 Browning I was drooling over and went over and grabbed it. The gun was the non tactical version of the FNX 45 and as soon as I picked it up, I knew it was a match made in heaven. The gun just felt so dang good. But, I did not like the price tag. So, I've drooled over it for a long time, and he sold that one and got a few new ones in, and every time I did I drooled some more, but could never Justify $850 for a plastic gun when I have a 1911 that works perfectly well. Right after Christmas the tides turned a bit and he got in a used one, and priced it at $600. I was seriously temped but still couldn't pull it off. Well, about 2 weeks ago, I went in again to BS on my lunch break and he was kinda whining about how it had been a slow month and how he had bills to pay. After a bit we started talking about the FN, and he told me he would let me have it for what paid, which was a deal I could not pass up, especially considering how bad I have wanted one for the last year. Luck would have it, I had sold my 4 wheeler the day before, so I had about half the amount in my pocket, so I gave it to him, and picked it up today when I got paid from work.
This gun is a BEAST and that is why I love it. I have big hands, this is a BIG gun. Everyone complains that the 1911 is big, but its not anywhere close to this thing. I was pitch black by the time I got off work, but that did not stop me from running to the dump and firing a mag, and for it being dark and not being able to see the sights, it shot way better then I expected it to. I can't wait to go shoot it tomorrow in the light on paper.
I'll get some of the pics tomorrow when I go out and shoot it. Meanwhile, here are some specs next to one of my all times favorites, the 1911 Government model.
