Looks like there will be lots of gopher meat in the freezer this summer.

Dont know about meat in the freezer but might save the fur. Tina tanned some woodchucks I shot last year and made me a possibles bag of them. She tanned some road kill fox and coon and is making things to sell in our store. We shared making a stone head war club that she beaded and has in the store for sale. She has a couple ermine hung on it with a small dream catcher and it turned out pretty nice. I told her to hang the woodchuck tails on it because they look like dried scalps. Its hard to obtain real dried scalps these days. Progress, phooey !!! here is a picture of the stone head war club Attachments:

Something I wanted to touch on about the book that started this thread is that first I am not able or equipped to comprehend all that he so easily seems to deduce from his testing and his presentation and evaluation of that data. The man must have been part computer. I do however now understand the why of something that previously I could not. That is the why the 308 Winchester is said to be an 800 yard cartridge while shooting the same bullet as the 300 WM which is said to be a 1500 yard cartridge. I guess I should clarify "" for military use as a sniper round"" I have read that the 308 falls apart after 800 yards but the 300WM can nearly double that shooting the same bullet. I just didnt get it. Now after reading and trying to absorb I think I do get it. The clue was near the beginning where he said "" at some point in their trajectory arch all bullets become tippers"" Tippers meaning that they do not print round holes on paper. For me to comprehend I must picture a graph of the trajectory arch of each cartridge. Looking at such a graph you can see that any cartridge/bullet/MV at some point is dropping at a fairly steep angle I would guess at something like 5% of its forward motion. To look at those numbers the bullet would drop 1.5 feet for every 30 feet of forward motion. Now think about the angle of departure or maybe easier to understand the angle of the rifles bore on firing. If shooting at some distant target the angle of the bore must be elevated which gives the bullet a nose up in flight attitude if the bullet retains it attitude of bore angle for its flight. As the trajectory arch at longer range becomes more acute and the bullet having a nose high attitude it is continually presenting more surface area to its forward motion which translates to more drag and also due to air resistance causes the bullet to wobble and eventually tumble. Now to look at the opposite of what I just tried to explain if the bullet does not retain its nose op attitude but follows a point on course with its trajectory arch at that point where the arch begins that 5% ratio of drop to forward motion what we have is exactly the opposite of the former with the bullet having a nose down attitude but still offering the same amount of frontal area and so the same drag either way having the same effect. I get it now!!! The higher velocity of the 300 WM gives it a lower angle of bore over the 308 for the same shot. Those two things working together put that 5% point at a longer distance. That light finally went on for me and I think I really understand it now. Albert Einstein once said "" if you cant explain something then you dont really understand it "" If I just explained so someone else can understand then I think I really do get it now.

You just have to be very discrete & keep quiet about how & where you get them.

Interesting how it can come together. Slightly different burn rate. Shorter bullet.... Happy barrel harmonics.

I thought that you were going to let your daughters use the '92 Winchester .25-20 for that purpose.
