the last week of PA deer rifle i was "crippled" up for 3 days. my bad leg was a-hurtin and i couldn't walk to my stand. thursday morning i woke up fine and in the afternoon i was able to go to my stand. i sat there and didn't see anything. 4pm i sat my 9.3x57 in the corner of my stand. i wasn't going to shoot anything late in the day. 4:30 came by without seeing anything and i figured 15 minutes more it will dark, so i gathered my stuff up and began to hobble down the trail. but then i heard the deer coming. i spun myself to where i heard the sound and 80-90 yards a "group" of does are coming down. i looked at them for a minute and decided i would "scope" them out. i counted 7 does and the one big doe was looking over her shoulder. i figured that they running from another hunter. i figured wrong, somewhat. in the scope i see a big doe and then a big buck(i don't know pts, but i'm guessing 10 pt or higher) comes into view. i say to heck with that(of not shooting does because of time line, 4pm) and i click off the safety and......then he disappears into the brush. i click the safety on and begin my search (eyes only) for the big buck. about 2 minutes later, the big doe is still standing there looking over her shoulder when another buck came out. i put him in the sight and decided not shoot him and then he "looks" at me and i'm happy that i didn't shoot him. he was a 4pt on the left side and a no point on the right. then the buck looks over his shoulder and he runs. then the does decided to run at me. i figured that that bigger buck will run to me too, not!!! i couldn't find any bucks but i did hear them going away. then the big doe stopped broadside at 35 yards or so. for a minute, i was going to shoot her, but decided not too 'cause i remembered the time limit. then the big doe goes away. i said you're lucky and begin hobbling the trail(60 yards till i get to my utv). i was about 10 yards from my stand when i heard another noise, it was the hunter. i smiled to myself and began to hobble.
the next day, friday, i seen one i don't know what it is deer in the morning and 3 fawns in the afternoon. and it was warm out!!! saturday, the last day, in the morning i didn't see deer and in the afternoon i see one big doe at about 30ish yards, but she over the time limit too. she showed up about 4:20ish and she left about 4:30ish. there was plenty of light but i she was over my time limit.
soon it be muzzleloader season, so i have another chance to shoot deer. between my dad and younger brother we have shot 3 or 4 deer. we only need one more meat deer to set us thru. bucks better be good one, 8pt or higher, and does better be 150+lbs.
