I received an email yesterday from officials for the Matthew Quigley Long Range Rifle Match, that was to be held on Father's Day weekend in June, near Forsyth , MT, that the match has been cancelled this year, due to Corona Virus epidemic.

That is probably a prudent decision. I would have encouraged a provisional postponement to maybe early September.

Thank you Gary for sharing that here. Not sure about the 3rd annual Billy Dixon match either due to the theft of the steel buffalo. If we get something together we still expect a decline in attendance from last year of three competitors down to one, yours truly. Its still fun even if the competition is trying to better my own last years score. Suddenly with the pandemic being alone at the 1500 yard range with only cows as far as you can see is more appealing than ever before!

Al said that with the planning, & with so many shooters, between 500 & 600 last year, (I think 10 from other countries) their families, vendors, he said that it wouldn't be fair to wait any longer to call it off. Another thing he said, was that he didn't want to take the chance that anyone would get sick or worse, by attending. I really wanted to go again this year, because I really enjoyed the camaraderie & learning experiences of watching how the different shooters do their thing. Some are very meticulous, while some seem to just do it naturally, as the pioneers of the west did. The side benefits of the 3 times out there, were 2 trips to the Little Bighorn Battlefield, the National Cemetery, & both museums near there, Wagon Box Battlefield, Ft. Phil Kearney, Fetterman Massacre site, Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne where Willie Nickell, who was supposedly killed by Tom Horn is buried. Also, many notable people from Wyoming's past history are buried there. The Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Cheyenne. Old steam locomotives & the John Browning Gun Museum in Ogden, Utah. I got to ride 1 turn on an old steam locomotive turntable in Evanston, Wyoming. In 2016, I also extended my trip to Long Beach, CA to visit cousins that I hadn't seen since 1970. On the way home, I went thru Lincoln, New Mexico to visit Ft. Stanton, Lincoln & all places associated with Billy the Kid, then to Ft. Sumner, where he is buried. In Claremore, Oklahoma, I spent 5 hours in the J.M.Davis Arms & Historical Museum. Last, but not least, I was very happy to be invited to spend most of an enjoyable afternoon (except for the dog bite) with a very knowledgeable fellow who lives in SW Montana, by the name of Daniel Congiolosi. I was privileged to see his bullet casting operation, Reaper' Roost, meet his lovely bashful daughters, & enjoy conversation with Daniel. We were going to go gopher hunting, but it rained, so he didn't get to see how poorly I shoot sometimes. Thanks Daniel, in my mind, you're right up there in shooting related knowledge with Elmer & Skeeter. Thanks for your hospitality. Hope you & your family stay healthy. Gary
