Been cleaning my gun stuff up while working on the house this week and discovered I have a few hundred pieces of freshly formed 17 k hornet cases, and nearly 1000 17 caliber bullets, as well as a set of dies.
Anyone ever play with this round? I'm thinking about ordering a barrel for my contender.

I have played with the 22 version but never the 17. I know from reading his books that Parker Ackley was partial to the 17 K hornet and that is about as good an endorsement a cartridge can receive. On the 22 K hornet I can say without question that the sharp shoulder does to a point check case stretching with hotter loads. The 17 version should be an interesting fun and to 200 yards capable cartridge for smallish targets. I must however raise a red caution flag on handloading this cartridge in that even very small details can cause extreme increase in chamber pressure so hand loading this cartridge must be surgically clean in regard to details. In these small bore small volume cases a tenth of a grain of powder can cause extreme pressure changes and small details like excessive case length and slight changes to bullet seating depth can get your immediate attention fast!

Normally I wouldn't even consider it. Currently the smallest bore I own is 35 caliber. But since I have all this stuff, and have had 0 luck trying to sell it, I figured it may be interesting to mess with.

Do be careful inserting those skinny little itsy-bitsy bullets onto the case and seating them. I have read about some fellers loading finger skin into the case.

Caliber .22 is as small as I will go. Even those give me issues. Maybe that is why I like caliber .50. Big plus is I do not need y "up close" glasses to see them.

Just drop a handful in a 12 gauge hull and be done with it.
