With Jr. impressing me with the numbers of folks looking for powder coated bullets for subsonic suppressed loading in the 300 BO we have decided to branch out in that direction.
Our first offering will be a design I will call a semi round nose boat tail. In an alloy of 98% lead and 2% antimony this bullet weighs 234 gn. The bullets drop from the mold at about .3065" diameter. The base is a long gentle boat tail ending at about .280" This is a smooth sided design w/o grooves. It is quite a sleek design and should have a decent BC.
It should also work well as a paper patch design and I do intend to test some in that regard soon. Jr. is running the powder coating tests currently and we should be hearing from him on this soon.
We intend to offer these in three forms, as cast, powder coated, and paper patched though it may be a while before all three forms are officially available.
One very nice attribute of this design is that it will stabilize in a standard 1/10" twist rifling. Compared in length to the Sierra 30 cal 220 RN it is just slightly shorter. This is due to the semi round nose design keeping the total length much shorter than a spritzer design of the same weight would be but still not reducing the BC by a great amount.
A flat nose though it keeps the length short is a killer of BC but the profile of this design is not too blunt and should still be very efficient at piercing the atmosphere. As to bullet BC a round nose is a compromise between spritzer and flat nose that keeps the BC high while at the same time keeping the length short enough to not require faster than standard twist rate.
As soon as Jr. shows up at the shop again I will request he add a picture of the new design to this thread.
