Have not had much in the way of adult supervision the past several years. Plumb are up with revolvers. SW ticked me off, moved all but a few of those out and have went to Ruger and FA.
Had big plans to shoot revolvers in all my IHMSA classes last year. Well work called and I only got to shoot one match. I am trying to make up lost ground this year. FA 357 magnum I am running in production and revolver class for now, averaging 35-37x40.
The Ruger 44 magnum I had not tinkered with enough and said the heck with it, loaded up same load of 2400 but swapped to an NOE design of the 429421. It looked to shoot well so ran it with no known sight settings other than a 50 meter zero. One of the guys dug through his notes and gave me his sight settings from 15 years ago lol. They were fairly close and I scratched out a 30x40. May have to come up with another Bowen rear target sight. This gun was bought in the mid 80's and had less than 300 rounds through it. He kept it all that time as it shot better than his 44FA, which he swapped for a 357. It was stored for a spare I case he needed it if his FA went down. Gun is in excellent shape, except the two scope base holes in the top strap, which I still have yet to find who's base fits it.
Snagged up a 357 max, it shoots excellent at 50 and 100. I am still fooling with a 150 and 200 load. Swapped rear sights out for a Bowen and that fixed a lot of issues. So much that I figured it was the load rather than me or the gun at the further ranges.
Snagged up several others also. The last being one of the SBH 480's. Front sight needs attention for sure. It is liking the H110 and the MIHA bullet. Long shot powder has shown some great promise for a mid range load.
Picked up a couple of 41 mags also. Ruger Bisley hunter and the other a Smith 657. I have to say if I had ever shot a 41 mag before the 44, I would never have owned a 44. These two are just out standing shooters. Iron sighted both will run an average 3" group at 50 I have not stretched their legs past that. Most of these were with a standard 215. I do have some heavier I bought from a gent who used an early NEI mold made by Walt. Shoots as well as the 215 and hope it will fly to 200 as well. FYI long shot is a good one here as well.
If any of you have that heavy NOE 41 mag mold I would sure like to buy some to give a try before I hit the go button on that mold. It looks to be a close copy of the NEI the best I can tell. Unsized unlubed I prefer.
Tinkered with a new lube. Don't know why because I have a life time supply of everything to make Felix lube. I made up a batch of Bens red with the Lucas grease,ATF and bees wax. I have it loaded in a couple of things. Going to see if it works up to my expectations. At worst I have a fair supply of flux.
Saw a few mentioning a on the 32 mag. Snagged a couple of the 327 single sixes. I need to play with them more. Grips are just so blasted small I am going to address that. One is a 71/2" the other a 5.5". Have one of the buckeye 32-20/32 mags. The 32-20'loaded to modern standards still leaves the 327 in the dust. Have a pb 140 from an old group buy. It shoots excellent in the buckeye and will take Rams over at 200m. I have the wants to try it on deer if I can get my alloy sorted out to make me happy.
Gotta run
