Looking forward to the second shoot this year at Ridgway. I have been out of shooting for ten years now and finally got the opportunity to shoot again. I went to the first shoot kind of blind with no loads worked up and actually fire forming new brass, so I don't need to tell you how that went. we did have a good time and I have been able to work on some loads a little bit so I'm looking forward to this next shoot. chaz

Glad to hear your out there shooting even though your expectations were modest. Take my word for it chart every detail because memory is not a dependable ally. Another tip I will offer is make a good spotter your best friend. A good spotter is a very important component in a shooting system. I have finally settled on a load for my Sharps and now am working out sight settings. We just a couple days ago picked up a large steel plate about the size of a buffalo and my hope - plan for that is to set it at 1500 yards and try to make the Billy Dixon shot. Hope that maybe we can persuade some other shooters to come and try it with us. I can envision it becoming an annual event. I am thinking about cutting a heart size hole where the heart would be on a buffalo and mounting a plate on the back side to set a can of tannerite on. Popping the tannerite would earn a special prize. Sound like fun?

I was really hoping to make the Quigley shoot this year, but don'don't think I will be able to.
Bullshop. Tannerite take a fair amount of Velocity to set it off. My 1100 FPS load in my 45 ACP won't set it off so I'm doubtful that a BPCR would set it off that that range, unless you got the really sensitive stuff used for rimfires.

Even though the velocity will be low at the 1500 yard range the energy is substantial. In the Sandyhook trials with the 45-2.1 and 45-2.4 the 500gn bullets were still penetrating 9" of sand. A 45 acp may not do that at any range. Packed sand will stop a bullet quickly no matter what the velocity. It is really amazing how the percentage of velocity loss goes down once the bullet is subsonic. Starting with a muzzle velocity of about 1300 fps at our elevation of about 6000 ft the bullet is going subsonic at something like 300 yards. From that point on it sheds velocity at a much lower rate.

We might have to buy some and experiment. If we add extra aluminum oxide to the mix I believe it will make it more sensitive.
