Anyone making plans to go to the 2016 Quigley shoot? I'm really hoping to make it this year. wanted to go last year, but did not have a rifle. Now that I am living closer to the mother ship I have a couple of options on rifles to borrow/take.

I'm going to be there, if I can make it healthwise. I would like to shoot with my 1884 Trapdoor, but I don't want to make a fool of myself. I'll have to get more boolits from Dan, if I shoot.

Howdy shootist First match I shot my 84 in my total score was 1 (one). And that was because my 500 grainer struck the spring holding the pig (we were to lazy to set the 500 yarders). So my scorer shouted "I heard a hit and he is the only one shooting right now". Later he confessed he knew it was a spring hit. Was my fault.. My rifle needed .462 to bump up far enough to fill out that fat throated beast. My .459's just were not making it even at 40-1 mix. But I was still learning as now.

Dad is thinking about shooting his trapdoor if he goes. If I go, I'm going to shoot the highest score I can, so am going to take the best rifle I can.

Hi Missionary. I had Dan ship 50 .459 X 405 gr. boolits for my 1884 Trapdoor a short time ago. I have loaded 20 rounds, using new Starline Cases, with 70 gr. 2F Goex (by scale weight), & I don't think 71 gr. will fit. I should have gotten 500 gr boolits to use at Forsyth, but hadn't thought of shooting there at the time. This trip includes visiting Little Big Horn, Wagon Box, Cheyenne, WY, then on to CA to visit cousins. I shot 2 deer in Dec. with Winchester factory loads in the Trapdoor, but havn't shot BP loads in it yet, as I only have 70 yards in my back yard.

To shoot a good score at the Quiggley or any other long range BPC match a good spotter is as important a component as any making up the cartridge and nearly as important as a good shooter. Having a pin board for each target makes the communication between spotter and shooter a fast simple matter. A quick look at your spotter and a bright colored push pin in the board at the location of the bullet impact transfers the needed sight correction information quickly and accurately.
I would like to go but am having doubts! Having three free days out of work seems impossible. I can however be of great help in preparing rifle and ammo as well as sighting information to give a good edge to a good shooter to have a better than average chance of doing well. Maybe thats the best I can offer. It is possible that I can combine a trip to Saco to keep compliant with the weed ordinance and be at the Quiggley for the two days of competition to be a spotter. Don't know for sure as there are many other important things on my plate like getting in enough fire wood and keeping up with gardens not to mention keeping bullet customers happy. One thing I am pretty sure about though is that if Jr. shoots there he will be shooting a smooth sided sub caliber paper patch bullet. I just happen to run off a bunch today since I was working on an order with the right alloy in the pot. These .445" diameter bullets will be patched to sub caliber with a 16lb 25% cotton fiber bond paper. This is what seems to pierce the atmosphere better and is less effected by wind than all else I have tried. Maybe my greatest help will be in offering my service and experience. Dang I would like to see you end on top Jr. I know you have the shooting ability but you may be lacking in what I am offering, experience.
