I'll be getting home this weekend and want to try that new mold. I'll be loading it in a Charter Arms 2.5" Bulldog, thinking around 750 to 850 fps. At that light of a load, I'm thinking pure pb with 3% or so tin. Am I on the right track?

Greetings If you want maximum expansion that is where I would start. I am thinking this is a 44 Special Bulldog so you will not need much base pressure on that bullet to get there. I have a similar revolver but a Taurus Titanium 44 special 2.5 inch. I use 245-265 FN types cast but a little faster at 900-950 fps. Expected impact range is 10-20 feet so there will be little velocity loose. Have shot pure range scrap but settled on 75% range scrap - 25 % clip on WW. Just a shade harder and penetrates a bit more. I have much more range scrap than pure available to me. For plinking I do use lighter cast. But for CC I want a heavy thumper. I use Unique in these also. Mike in Peru

I usually like a soft bullet for anything under 1000 FPS. Just something I like about a lead mushroom.

I was given a 2cav mold for this bullet and have only used it for light Cowboy loads. I cast most of my Cowboy Revolver loads using a 70/30 mix of COWW and LYMAN#2. This bullet is great in my COLT SAA .44SPLs & various clones. It also shoots great in my S&W 624, & my ancient CA 3" Bulldog. I can't get the accuracy I want out of any of my .44 cal Rifles. But then I want a heavier & harder bullet for .44 Rifles. I get one hole groups at 7 yards with that old Bulldog. I use the starting load with TITEGROUP out of the HODGDON Cowboy Reloading Handout. The Smith & New Frontier will put 5rds into 2.5-3" at 25yrds, at least if I do my part. This Lee 44-200-RF and it's discontinued older brother 44-210-1R 2cav make fine substitute's when I run out of my first choice; LYMAN #429478RN. But for SD in .44SPL, I'll take the SKEETER LOAD, It's a bit heavy in the old BULLDOG. And If I had the option to use cast in CALIF. I use the Lee 44-310 crimped in the top groove over a heavy Win296 load in my WINCHESTER or MARLIN LEVER ACTIONS.
