Welcome to the Bullshop forum. This is a great place to talk about guns, hunting, bullet casting and swagging and anything else related to the gun and cast bullet world. I would like to note that I will probably be the one doing most of the forum editing, and I am new to this so please bear with me. If you see anything that needs changed, or if there are any features that you would like to see on the forum, please feel free to comment or send me a PM and I will see what I can do to change it. As of right now the "Recent post" button serves as a way to check on all threads that have been posted on within the 7 days. I may try to add a "today" button later that will show post instead of threads if people think they would prefer that. And as said before, if there are any other features that you would like to see, please to not hesitate to comment on here, or send me a PM.
I hope every one enjoys the site.

Welcome,Dick.. & I see the intrigue falls further into the depths there,as Vzxxxxe joins up with his handlers at "Beyond" to paint a bullseye on Sgt.Mike.Lying Joe Ambrose back to the usual cheap shots,in concert with the Christian behavior advocate from Kayroo country..Obvious now,why those moderators went ballistic on me...!!

sierra hunter,
Thanks for the Welcome also. I started to learn about this great hobby in 2003, got involve with the Nevada Cast Boolit Shoot through 1oldgentagain's invitation, and begun to learn from him, BruceB, NVcurmudgeon, 9.3X62AL, Buckshot, urny, ammohead and many others. What a ride it has been! At that time I owned 3 firearms, a rifle, shotgun and a pistol. From there, a herd of Firearms, 14 long guns and 5 pistols. We got my wife involved and she is the owner of part of the Herd, and she wins trophy's regularly!
The main reason, your Forum and others are and have been so helpful, is the vast amount of information that is available, just by reading and asking! When I started from zero, some of the a fore mentioned tutors had 35-50 years experience. Because of there kindness, I was able to pick up years of experience in a relatively short period of time. Also believe me, reading folks like, "Bullshop" and "Larry Gibson" Threads and Posts have added to my education.
Having said all this, I still feel I have a long way to go, but especially, with sites like yours, I shall continue learning! Thanks again, Mac

cobbmtmac I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your post. You have described exactly what our purpose is and hearing from you makes it all seem worth while. Thank you for your post and I hope the thrill never diminishes for you. For myself I know that if I last another 100 years it will not be long enough to learn it all.

That's all well and good, but where's any credit to the guy who taught you back country surgery by lamplight (or maybe flashlight)--Too long ago now, to be sure. There is NO PLACE on the web you can go and learn things like that..1Oxxxxxxxxx

Yes Dan, I will tell the story, as I’ve been baited by 1oldgentagain. You see I have known him since 1953, will be 63 years in Sep. Within a year or two, he introduced me to his little Sister, she has been my wife and in Mar. it will be 58 years! I tell you these things, before I tell the story so you will understand, not only have I known him along time but, I know him well! So many hunting trips that sometimes in my mind, that’s not to far from being in my dotage, I get facts for these trips mixed up! I’ll do my best. Sometime in the, I am guessing, mid to late 60’s to early 70’s I was preparing for one of these wonderful outdoor excursions, with whom I considered and still consider the smartest man on this earth, I say this because it is true and because I want you to understand the respect I have for him. When he says, I can do it; you can take that to the bank! Back to my preparation, I was sharpening my skinning knife, I had her just about there, testing my job, by shaving my arm, but had to do another pass or two. …….I slipped, slicing the end of my left thumb across just down under the nail! Blood spurting everywhere, my wife, the lovely Marlene, hauled me off to the on call Doctor Office. It probably took 7-8 stitches! The Doctor, said I want you back here for stitch removal, he picked a date, 5 or 6 days from then. I said, I can’t be here, as I will be in an Idaho Wilderness Area. A very stern look came across his face, as I then said, OH, my B-I-L, who is a Doctor of Pharmacy, who I’ll be hunting with can take them out. That settled the old Doc down, with him giving me the exact date this should be done and I was out of his office and back home to do more packing. Within a day or two I met 1oxxxxx. in Boise, where we loaded our gear, including two tents, a base camp and a mountain two man affair, oh and a horse trailer and two horses. Then off to, I believe a place called 8 or 9 Mile Creek. 1oxxxx. can jump in here with corrections if necessary. We arrived there I believe, 11p. Thu. night, with Mule Deer and other game Season Opening on Sat. This would allow us to set up a nice camp and possibly Scout and set up a Spike Camp, as we planned to be hunting some 14 mile up, putting us in Deer/Goat country. If I described the happenings right after arrival and going into Fri. morning, it would take another book. I’ll just say, we were both tired, cursing the establishments that were controlling our work carriers and as we opened the doors, the temp change from when we left Boise, seemed like 60% and it wasn’t warm in Boise. ……So we began to drink, straight from the bottles as in, Jack Daniels and Korbel Brandy! It was not a good sight even by 11a Fri. We eventually got back on tract and were very fortunate to find a small Sheep Herders tent about 14 miles in, all set up and by the only spring for miles. There was a sign on the front flap in grease pencil, that read; “Howdy Partners, Your Welcome To Use This Shelter, Please Leave As You Found It, With Dry Wood and Kindling Inside The Stove, signed, Lee Sholtsmier, Meridian, ID. I’ll fast forward several hunting days and living in Lee’s tent, it was time to remove the Sutures by “Lamplight”, my Doctor of Pharmacy, was about to go to work, using a little First Aid Kit I had assembled for the task. He first clipped the little sutures one by one before removing any, just like he knew what he was doing! Now the removal, ….. No. 1 was-easy –smooth, No. 2, 3, 4, maybe 5 were all the same, Smoooth! I say all this smooth stuff, but in reality, he would get a good grip with the tweezers, JERKING like he was trying to crank a tractor, but there was no resistance, so they came out smoothly! I was getting use to this to the point, I was not paying attention, when he grabbed onto the next one, giving his now Mammoth Jerk, …….PAIN, oh my God, I mean PAIN with my thumb feeling like it had been pulled from it’s socket, he, The Doctor of Pharmacy, had grabbed the wrong end, pulled the knot through the hole, causing not only PAIN, but blood to spurt, needing him to rush for a horse rein to use as a Tunicate, just to get the blood stopped! He called it “Back country Surgery by lamplight”. I call it Back country Torture! Dan, you now can see, I can’t tell a short story, hope it isn’t too long, I really left a lot out. Anyway, thanks for asking. Mac
PS. I don’t know what happened to the last stitch or two, maybe they are still in there?

The essence is there, but, as I proved at the time,I'm an even better Mountain goat hunting guide, than I am a back country surgeon...It's been 40 + years, so a fellow can be forgiven for being a tad fuzzy on the details...1Oxxxxxxxxxxx.

Yes, we did bag a Mountain Goat, thanks to you my guide. Also, a fuzzy, I believe I was drinking Laphroaig Scotch in those days. Later I calmed down to Korbel Brandy. Mac

Bill I think you need to sharpen up your pocket knife an find that last suture and after all this time finish the job. If you don't get it out it might hurt him. Ha!!!

Things can really fall into the right place, still, when one has time to reflect.. IT was my introduction to Laphroiag all right, and I never took another sip,(unless it was free !!)..Since even then that area was Permit only Mt.Goat hunting, and there hasn't been a hunt allowed there for at least 30 years now,I will open up and tell y'all that we were on Ten Mile ridge, about 4 airmiles from Pickett Mtn.to the so.east. probably less than a mile by horse trail from where the Wapiti Cr.trail coming out of Grandjean,Id.intersects the trail to Pickett Mtn. Lee S. is already across the River, but I'm expecting him to have another fine camp ready for us. There's plenty more adventure on the back end of that trip, happening about 60 airmiles to the west as we went out seeking that wallhanger Mulie....1OxxGxxxAxxxx.

Wall hanger Mulies are getting hard to find here. Fish and game in their infinite wisdom has just enlightened us to the fact that it is elk that are eliminating the mule deer not wolves. They are proposing making two cow tags available to every hunter to reduce the elk numbers. In a few years we wont have either mule deer or elk. This is exactly what they did in Alaska with the moose. They said the moose were over browsing (BS) so gave over the counter cow tags for 6 consecutive years. After that you couldn't find any moose bull or cow. The real reason for the moose reduction was that the auto insurance companies were paying off policy makers to get rid of the moose because they were costing them money in auto insurance claims.

The B-I-L's and my last effort to put away another wall hanger mulie ended early and not well,so our next effort is going to back in the old home country,to see if there might be a blacktail buck worth taking a picture of.It will be too early to expect to intercept a mulie making a early move to winter range..but,a kid banker I knew took a 34" mulie 3 years ago not that many airmiles away from where we did that Mtn.goat hunt..AND he did it from a road camp without pack stock..my guide service will be the cheapest part of that hunt for you out-of staters.!.!. 1OxxxxAxxxn

New member here as I received a bullet order from Daniel and spotted his card saying "Please join our cast bullets forums." So I did ... I thought I'd share a picture a co-worker sent me from his nephew who was out shed hunting this morning in central Utah. I saw a herd of elk about this size in 2011 about 180 miles to the north of this one. The nephew said this picture didn't catch all of the elk and guessed about 25% of the herd is not in the picture. I have been a Marlin guy all of my life and enjoy many calibers in my Marlins including .22, .357, .35 Rem, .308 ME, 38-55, .45 colt, .444, and 45/70's. I found the Bull Shop on an internet search needing longer range bullets for a rifle being made for me at this time in Big Timber, MT. The rifle should be here in the next month or so. Glad to be here ...

Welcome Doug ! I hope those bullets shoot well for you. Here where I live in south west MT. I often see elk herds like in your pic when out on my walkabouts. When they are bunched that tightly there is something on the wind that has their attention. Browsing or bedding normally they wont be bunched that close together. When I was younger I would follow herds like this while coyote hunting. The coyotes will follow the herds not so much for the elk but for the small critters they disturb as they slowly browsing, mice and rabbits and such. I found if I stayed 400 to 500 yards down wind and moved slowly I wouldn't spook them. I did always wear snow camo and am sure that helped me blend into the distant background. Spotting deer or elk has always been a method of hunting coyotes I employ. I like to climb to a high spot then glass for some herds then move to a down wind location and first glass the fringes of the herd then call. Its a productive method to produce fur.
