I can measure the psi (Oehler M43) of 45-70 cartridges, numerous others also.

Very logical position Dan. Thank you for describing Harvey Donaldson's theory. I have never heard of that, but it certainly jives with what I have seen. If that is true, then I need to be taking advantage of the 1886's ability to feed a longer bullet, as that may make some of these powders act totally different. Never really considered it, but you're right. In a cartridge that is difficult to get properly burning powder for, I may be ham stringing myself sticking to light weight bullets! I'll go back and try a few different combinations with heavier bullets. You don't happen to have a 450-475 grain RN design do you?

Well we do have a good selection for 45 cal rifle but I am not sure if we have something in that weight range in RN. You can check our list here bullshop.weebly.com/ Just click on the "more" icon at the top right of the page and the caliber list will drop down

I'm having trouble getting the link to work. Maybe it's a Chrome thing? I got on earlier today and I saw a NEI PB 500 grain RN (Government). I would like to buy 100 of those from you please.

The above picture is of the receiver sight I mentioned. It is calibrated in 5 yard increments starting at 100 yards and going to 200 yards. The cam is for 400gn bullets at 1600 fps. Other cams were to be available but I have lost touch with the maker. This is a prototype sight from a fellow from Canada. After I got this from him he seems to have dropped off the map and I have lost all contact with him for the past nearly 10 years. Sorry for the poor picture its from a new camera I have not figured out how to properly operate yet.
I went and looked up the 45-70 load I used at the Quiggley match and is as follows, Case - RP 45-70 fire formed unsized bullet - Lyman 495gn Spt @ BHN-15 @ .459" #2 lube primer - Federal #215 mag powder - .5cc WC-820 kicker - 46gn WC 860 main one styro wad over powder chronographed 5 shot string hi-1413 low-1410 es-3 av-1411 sd-1 notation - this is the lowest ES I have ever gotten with smokeless powder Other shot strings stayed in the teens for ES

Ha, 1Oxxxxxxxxx ( I'm long some Mirochesters and/or okubrownings,to lazy to go look for certain....)
